Chinese philosophy is all about balance. Foods are classified by taste, color, and their thermic nature. Consequently, meals are supposed to reflect a perfect balance of each of these groups. If one flavor, color and thermic nature is used too much or too little, the body can get out of balance. According to traditional Chinese philosophy, diseases are invited by neglecting basic nutritional and lifestyle principles.

UK scientists recently published their research on the evidence behind detox claims made for products and diets by the million-dollar detox industry. According to the scientists’ warning, there is no evidence that products frequently sold to help the body “detox” actually work. The conclusion of the study is that your body, when properly fed with whole food and food nutrients, is capable of removing most potentially harmful chemicals you will encounter in your daily life.

We can’t look at a pyramid these days without thinking of food and healthy eating. But with so many food pyramids to choose from, how do we decide which one is right for us?
